As of March 2022, our corps does not currently have classes operating. This may change in the future, as our non-profit board is still meeting as needed and supporting the remaining fire and lighted team twirlers in sharing their love of performing.
The Alaskanette Corps taught the sport and performance art of baton twirling in both Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley from 1969 – 2020. Our classes for individuals and teams included instruction in baton twirling, dance, musical skills, teamwork, performance skills, and coping skills necessary to deal with competition. All judges and coaches are U. S. Twirling Association certified.
The Corps previously ran regular, weekly classes throughout the school year in both Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley. Individual twirlers may have private lessons; group lessons are offered for teams of four to ten twirlers of similar age and skill level. Special summer programs are available, including a new beginner class, skills classes for experienced members, and parade corps. Most corps programs are designed for participants ages 5 – 18, but preschool and adult classes are an option. Special event classes may include Girl Scout workshops to earn the baton twirling patch or birthday parties.
The Alaskanettes as of 2022 are performing at New Years and holiday events like the Winter Soltice Party and the New Years Eve celebration in Anchorage and each Friday and Saturday at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer in August.
